Nick Gordon, Grant Holmes, Derek Hill among 7 amateurs invited to 2014 MLB Draft

Seven high school players will be in attendance when the MLB Draft commences on June 5.

Major League Baseball invited seven draft-eligible players to the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, which will take place on June 5 at MLB Network’s studios in Secaucus, N.J.

Nick Gordon, Grant Holmes, Derek Hill, Michael Chavis, Jacob Gatewood, Monte Harrison and Kodi Medeiros will be in attendance, with most having a good chance of hearing their names called during MLB Network's coverage of the event. Six of the seven high-schoolers were listed as potential opening-round picks in the latest consensus 2014 mock draft, with only Medeiros projected to go lower than No. 27. Medeiros, a left-handed pitcher from Hawaii, is mocked to go to the Kansas City Royals at No. 28 by Minor League Ball's Matt Garrioch.

Among the invitees, Gordon is projected to be off the board the earliest. The Windemere, Fla. native is widely seen going to the Chicago Cubs with the No. 5 pick.

Coverage of the 2014 MLB Draft will begin with an hour-long preview show on MLB Network at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 5. The Houston Astros will be on the clock at 7 p.m., kicking off the draft's first day which includes the first round, Competitive Balance Round A, the second round and Competitive Balance Round B. Rounds three through 10 will take place on Friday, with the remaining 30 rounds going down on Saturday.
