The Oakland Athletics placed starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday with a broken right (non-throwing) hand, the team announced.

Pomeranz suffered the injury punching a wooden chair after leaving in the fourth inning of Oakland's 14-6 loss to the Texas Rangers on Monday, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. The Athletics recalled right-handed reliever Evan Scribner to take the place of Pomeranz on the 25-man roster.
In 17 games, including eight starts, Pomeranz owns a 2.91 ERA with 48 strikeouts and 23 walks in 55⅔ innings. The 25-year-old southpaw, who was acquired from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Brett Anderson during the offseason, was off to easily the best start of his career, and that likely contributed to his unmistakable disappointment about the injury.
“It sucks. It was stupid,” Pomeranz told Lee. “Obviously it’s something I didn’t mean to happen. I want to pitch, I want to win games, help this team.”
Padres' offense bad again in loss
The San Diego Padres suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday and are now only a half-game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have been in the cellar of the National League West every day since April 2. The Friars managed just four hits and a walk in 31 plate appearances, continuing a problem that has plagued them in historic fashion this season:

Boston Red Sox outfielder Brock Holt never played an inning in center field in his big league career before Tuesday, so maybe that explains why he thought it was OK to do this:
That’s Holt entering the right side of the screen and making a tumbling catch. Clearly the play was unexpected considering the camera operator’s near-failure to capture the moment, and for good reason: Holt traveled all the way from the right side of center field to make the grab.
Jonny Gomes totally had it, though. That was his ball.
Holt was manning center in part because of Boston’s decision to designate Grady Sizemore for assignment prior to the game.
