The Marlins made an addition to their bullpen on Sunday by acquiring reliever Bryan Morris from the Pirates in exchange for a 2014 Competitive Balance Round A draft pick, according to a team release.
MLB roundup: Marlins acquire Bryan Morris, Kyle Lohse tosses a Maddux
A rare trade involving a draft pick took place on Sunday. Plus, a stellar outing by Kyle Lohse and a walk-off in Cleveland.

Morris owns a 3.80 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 12 walks in 23⅔ innings this season. For the Pirates’ NL Wild Card-winning team a year ago, the 27-year-old righthander put up a 3.46 ERA with a similarly low strikeout-to-walk ratio, notching 37 punchouts against 28 free passes in 65 innings.
Miami is in the thick of things in the National League East, currently in second place in the division and three games back of the Atlanta Braves with a record of 28-28. The Marlins’ bullpen ranks 13th in the NL in ERA with a 4.04 mark. The unit is right in the middle of the NL pack in innings with 164⅔.
The Pirates will get the No. 39 overall pick in the upcoming draft in exchange for Morris. Pittsburgh also owns a pick in Competitive Balance Round B. Miami still has the No. 36 overall pick in Round A as a result of failing to sign Matt Krook, the No. 35 overall selection in 2013.
Lohse stymies Cubs
Kyle Lohse on Sunday needed only 93 pitches to earn a complete-game shutout in the Brewers' 9-0 win over the Cubs. That type of performance, of course, has a name:
Kyle Lohse: 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 93 pitches. That, friends, is a #Maddux.
— Jonah Keri (@jonahkeri) June 1, 2014 The 35-year-old righthander threw 61 of those pitches for strikes and induced 11 ground-ball outs. Lohse, who improved to 7-1 with a 2.60 ERA, also hurt the Cubs with his bat, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
Lohse recorded the fourth Maddux, a nine-inning, complete-game shutout requiring fewer than 100 pitches, of the season. Only Miami's Henderson Alvarez did it in fewer pitches, using just 90 bullets in a Maddux against the Mariners on April 19.
Tribe complete sweep with walk-off HR
Michael Bourn entered Sunday with only one home run this season and had just 29 in 4,110 plate appearances. Needless to say, he's not a prime candidate to hit a walk-off home run, but the veteran outfielder did just that on Sunday:
Bourn's heroics allowed Cleveland to complete a sweep of the visiting Rockies. It marked the first time Colorado has been swept in a series of three or more games this season.
