MLB Futures Game rosters announced, feature Francisco Lindor, Kris Bryant

Want to see the future of MLB? You get your annual chance this July.

MLB’s annual Futures Game will take place at Target Field on July 13, and now we know who we’ll be watching, as they’ve announced the rosters for both the U.S. squad and their World counterparts.

Team USA features Cubs third base prospect Kris Bryant, who batted .355/.458/.702 with 22 homers and 42 extra-base hits in 68 games at Double-A before earning a promotion to Triple-A. While his first five games haven’t been perfect, he didn’t forget to bring his power with him, as he’s already accumulated four homers in his five games. Bryant is joined by Rangers third baseman Joey Gallo, who has somehow out-homered Bryant in his time at High-A and Double-A, with 27 dingers already.

Mookie Betts, who had a 71-game on-base streak snapped earlier this season, was named to the U.S. team, as were pitchers like the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard and the Nationals’ Lucas Giolito. They’ll be facing off against the World team’s sluggers, like Indians’ shortstop Francisco Lindor (.281/.360/.403 as a 20-year-old in Double-A) and Bryant’s teammate Javier Baez (.226/.278/.424 in the 20-year-old’s first taste of Triple-A ball) of the Cubs. Astros’ top prospect Carlos Correa was named to the squad as well, but an ankle injury suffered this weekend could change that.

The U.S. squad also features Cardinals’ pitching prospect Marco Gonzales, who is actually starting in the majors on Wednesday, while the World team has Julio Urias, the Dodgers’ pitching prospect who is all of 17 years old but is already striking out 9.5 batters per nine in High-A.

There are far more than that involved, and the full rosters are available for your perusal. The 16th annual MLB Futures Game will air on MLB Network on July 13, at 5 p.m. ET, live from Target Field in Minneapolis.
