2014 MLB All-Star Game: Miguel Cabrera homers to give AL 3-0 lead

Cabrera left the yard in a hurry to give the AL a temporary three-run lead.

Tigers star slugger Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run home run off of National League starter Adam Wainwright to give the American League a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.

Cabrera fouled off a 92 mph, first-pitch sinker from Wainwright before ripping the same pitch over the left field wall for the first home run of the game. Cabrera's long ball followed consecutive extra-base hits from Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and Angels outfielder Mike Trout to begin the bottom half of the opening frame.

The last Tigers player before Cabrera to homer in an All-Star game was Lou Whitaker, who went deep in the 1986 midsummer classic.

Cabrera entered Tuesday 2-for-12 with a double, no home runs and three strikeouts in eight career All-Star Game appearances.

Wainwright bounced back to strike out Jose Bautista and induce an inning-ending grounder off the bat of Adam Jones to end the inning. The NL got on the board in the top of the second on consecutive doubles from Phillies second baseman Chase Utley and Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy off of Jon Lester, who relieved AL starter Felix Hernandez.
