The Dodgers have finalized a deal to acquire infielder Darwin Barney from the Cubs, according to a major league source. The deal was first reported as close by Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, and has since been completed. The Cubs will receive a player to be named later in the deal, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Dodgers acquire Darwin Barney from Cubs
The teams completed a deal that will send the infielder to Los Angeles.

Barney, 28, was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week after hitting .230/.265/.328 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 72 games on the season. He drew trade interest from multiple clubs looking for infield help in advance of the trade deadline, but will head to Los Angeles as a depth option behind shortstop Hanley Ramirez and second baseman Dee Gordon.
MLB Trade Rumor
Barney will join Justin Turner as a backup infielder for the Dodgers, and will provide defensive value as one of the best defensive middle infielders in all of baseball. The move is a bit of a confusing one considering the Dodgers recently activated Triple-A infielder Alex Guerrero off the disabled list after his ear was partially bitten off in a dugout fight with teammate Miguel Olivo and have been seeing increased production from both Gordon and Turner in recent weeks.
