Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will have surgery to repair a partial tear of the medial patellar femoral ligament in his right knee, ending his 2014 season. Machado had the same surgery to repair a full tear of the same ligament in his left knee after the 2013 season.

David Richard-USA TODAY SportsThe surgery hasn’t yet been scheduled, but was decided upon on Friday, when Machado said his knee wasn’t progressing in the two weeks since his injury, wrote Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.
Machado had surgery for a full tear of the same ligament in his left knee on Oct. 14, 2013, which caused him to miss the first 25 games of the 2014 season while he recovered.

Greg FiumeUPDATE: On Tuesday the Orioles diagnosed the injury to Machado as a right knee ligament sprain, with more information expected on Wednesday, per Roch Kubatko of MASN.
The first-place Orioles are among the best stories in baseball this season, entering the night with a 67-50 record. The 22-year-old Machado is hitting .278/.324/.431 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI.
