Madison Bumgarner has perfect game through 7 innings vs. Rockies

Madison Bumgarner has not allowed a baserunner through seven innings against the Rockies on Tuesday night. The Giants ace is six outs away from the 24th perfect game in baseball history.

Giants ace Madison Bumgarner is working on a signature start against the Rockies on Tuesday night at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Bumgarner has a perfect game through seven innings, just six outs away from the 24th perfect game in major league history. Bumgarner has thrown only 78 pitches through seven innings and has nine strikeouts.

The Giants lead the Rockies, 2-0, in the middle of the seventh.

Bumgarner came close to allowing someone to reach base twice. Drew Stubbs, the second batter of the game, flew out to the wall in left field, retired on a leaping catch by Gregor Blanco. Four innings later, with two outs, Matt McBride grounded a ball into the hole between shortstop and third base, but was thrown out on a close play by Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford.

The last perfect game in baseball came two years ago, when Felix Hernandez beat the Rays in Seattle on Aug. 15, 2012. There were a record three perfect games that season, including Bumgarner's teammate Matt Cain, who threw a perfect game against the Astros on June 13, 2012, the only perfect game in Giants history.

The last no-hitter by a Giants pitcher was earlier this season, when Tim Lincecum threw a no-hitter to beat the Padres on June 25, also at AT&T Park.
