Madison Bumgarner loses perfect game in 8th, beat Rockies with 1-hitter
Bumgarner settled for a one-hitter and 13 strikeouts.
The Giants beat the Rockies, 3-0, on the strength of a pair of home runs by Buster Posey, a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth and a solo blast in the eighth.
Bumgarner retired the first 21 batters he faced before Morneau opened the eighth inning with a line drive to right field for the first hit and first baserunner of the game for the Rockies. Bumgarner recovered to strike out Michael McKenry, Matt McBride and Brandon Barnes to end the frame without any damage.
Bumgarner on the night settled for a one-hitter, striking out 13 strikeouts with no walks, needing just 103 pitches for the shutout. The 13 strikeouts set a season high for the left-hander, surpassing the 12 he had just five days ago in a win over the Cubs.
