Jordan Zimmermann pitches no-hitter to beat Marlins
Zimmermann’s first career no-hitter is also the first no-hitter in Nationals history.

Washington Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann made history on the last day of the regular season, recording his first career no-hitter against the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park. It's also the franchise's first no-hitter since moving to D.C. in 2005, with then-Expo Dennis Martinez recording the last one in 1991 at Dodger Stadium.
The no-hitter was clinched on a fantastic diving catch from outfielder Steven Souza Jr. in the top of the ninth:
Zimmermann dominated throughout Sunday afternoon, completely blanking Miami while striking out 10 and walking just one. He retired the first 14 batters before walking first baseman Justin Bour, but was otherwise perfect as the Nationals finished their division-winning season in style.
The no-hitter concludes another strong season for Zimmermann, who finishes with a 2.66 ERA, 182 strikeouts and 29 walks over 199.2 innings. The 28-year-old entered Sunday with seven complete games and three shutouts in his career.
The Marlins know a little something about finishing a season with a no-hitter. A year ago, Miami starter Henderson Alvarez got his first career no-no by blanking the Detroit Tigers on the final day of the season. On Sunday, Alvarez was on the mound again, this time watching someone else accomplish the feat.
