The Miami Marlins announced a new contract extension for manager Mike Redmond on Sunday. The deal, which comes on the heels of a 77-85 season for the franchise, will keep Redmond in a Marlins uniform through the 2017 season.
Mike Redmond gets contract extension from Marlins
The new deal will keep Redmond in Miami through the 2017 season.

Redmond was originally hired by the Marlins in 2012 to replace Ozzie Guillen after a lengthy playing career as a catcher. He spent seven years with the club as a player from 1998-2004, winning a World Series in 2003 as the backup to star catcher Ivan Rodriguez.
The Marlins finished 62-100 in their first year under Redmond, then improved by 15 wins this season. They're presumably hoping for some stability as they look to make further improvements, and already have several quality young players on the roster, including Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, Christian Yelich and Henderson Alvarez.
From 2010 to 2012, the Marlins employed Fredi Gonzalez, Edwin Rodriguez, Jack McKeon and Guillen for various amounts of time. Redmond has brought a more steady presence to the organization, and it’s clearly been welcomed.
President of baseball operations Michael Hill also announced Sunday that the entire coaching staff would be returning for 2015, so that theme of stability continues there. The Marlins are a young team, and it appears they’re committing to the clubhouse leadership that’s presently in place.
