Relief pitcher Ryan Madson cashed in on his first healthy season in four years, signing with the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, per Jerry Crasnick. The deal, which is pending a physical, is for three years and worth $22 million.

Madson had a 2.13 ERA in 68 games with the World Series champion Kansas City Royals in 2015, with three saves, 58 strikeouts and 14 walks in 63⅓ innings. He had a 5.40 ERA in nine relief appearances in the postseason with 15 strikeouts and three walks in 8⅓ innings, including three scoreless innings in the World Series.

He was rated as the 34th-best free agent this offseason by our own Grant Brisbee in October.

Madson, 35, was limited to a single minor league appearance on a rehab assignment (in 2013) in the previous three years, recovering from Tommy John surgery in May 2012 while with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Royals inked Madson to a minor league contract before the 2015 season with a non-roster invitation to spring training.

In parts of 10 major league seasons, Madson has put up a 3.47 ERA in 559 career games, including 18 starts, with 605 strikeouts and 205 walks in 693⅓ innings, and 55 career saves. He saved a career-high 32 games with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2011.
