Highly touted Chicago Cubs youngster Kris Bryant showed off his power Monday night, though he needed a little help from the Pittsburgh Pirates to make it all the way home after belting a seventh-inning double.
Kris Bryant nearly homers, still scores on little league home run
Bryant just missed his first big league home run before rumbling home to score after the Pirates made a comedy of errors.

Bryant ripped a pitch from Pittsburgh reliever Arquimedes Caminero to the wall in center field, driving in Jorge Soler and Anthony Rizzo in the process. The 23-year-old slugger then grabbed third base when the Pirates attempted to cut down a run at home, and after the throw got away from Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli, Bryant found himself in no man's land between third and home.
With little else to do but make a mad dash for home plate, Bryant wound up scoring when Cervelli dropped a throw that would have had Bryant out by a few steps.
Despite Pittsburgh’s sloppy defense, the play served to underscore Bryant’s strong night at the plate. Hitting in the cleanup spot, Bryant has accounted for all four of Chicago’s runs, driving in three to go along with his run scored.
The young slugger is still looking for his first major league home run, but he came around the bases in a manner that would have made any little leaguer proud Monday.
