Pete Rose formally requested reinstatement by Major League Baseball, and new commissioner Rob Manfred promised to listen. While that hasn’t been sorted out just yet, Manfred has publicly stated that Rose will at least be allowed to participate in the 2015 All-Star Game festivities in Cincinnati, the city where Rose put together most of his Hall of Fame-caliber career.
MLB will allow Pete Rose to participate in 2015 All-Star Game festivities
Pete Rose hasn’t been reinstated, but Major League Baseball won’t keep him out of the city that adores him.

This is not the first time that baseball has bent their own rules a little bit so that Rose could be honored, or, at least, so Rose could show up somewhere. Rose took part in 2013 ceremonies honoring the 1975 and 1976 Big Red Machine championship teams, and in 1999, had his moment as part of the All-Century Team. While nothing specific has been planned for Rose just yet -- that anyone knows of -- chances are good that the Reds will use this opportunity allowed by their bosses to appreciate one of their top stars from their lengthy history.
Rose was banned from MLB in 1989 after it was discovered he had gambled on baseball. As the Associated Press reports, there is no timetable yet for Manfred to make a decision on whether Rose’s request for reinstatement will be accepted or turned down, but either way, it’s going to be a contentious moment.
