The Milwaukee Brewers have fired manager Ron Roenicke and will announce his replacement at a press conference Monday morning, the team announced Sunday night. The replacement is unknown at this time, though speculation suggests Craig Counsell may be an option for the club.
Brewers fire manager Ron Roenicke, will announce replacement Monday
Craig Counsell has emerged as a possibility to be Roenicke’s replacement, according to reports.

Roenicke, 58, was fired after a 7-18 start for the Brewers, who are reportedly preparing to trade some of their key veterans as the trade deadline approaches. He was at the helm of the club for more than four seasons after being hired prior to the 2011 season, posting a 342-331 record and reaching the playoffs as the NL Central champions in 2011.
In the aftermath of the announcement, many are speculating that the Brewers will turn to a long-term replacement at the press conference due to the lack of the word “interim” in their press release.
Counsell, 44, is currently serving as a special assistant to the general manager for Milwaukee, and has been considered a managerial candidate around the game for a couple of years. Ron Gardenhire -- who recently expressed an interest in returning to managing -- was thought to be a candidate due to some reports earlier in the night, though a source with direct knowledge of the situation tells SB Nation that Gardenhire will not be the Brewers’ choice on Monday.
