Little League World Series scores and bracket: Luis Castillo does it all for Venezuela

Luis Castillo struck out 14 in a one-hitter and also had two hits and a home run at the plate, leading Venezuela over Uganda in the Little League World Series on Sunday.

Luis Castillo was nearly a one-man show, leading the team from Barquisimeto, Venezuela to a 7-0 win over the team from Uganda on Sunday, advancing to the semifinal round of the international side of the bracket at the 2015 Little League World Series at Williamsport, Pa.

Castillo allowed just one hit in six scoreless innings and struck out 14, and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run, helping Venezuela to a second straight win.

Venezuela will face Japan in the next round, after Japan defeated Mexico, 3-1, on Sunday.

On the U.S. side of the bracket, the team from Pearland, Texas got home runs from Raffi Gross and Dante Schmid en route to an 8-4 win over the team from Bonita, Calif. The Texas team, representing the Southwest, advances to the semifinal of the U.S. side of the bracket, where they will face Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

The team from Lewisberry, Pa. continued its romp through the tournament with a 9-8 win over South Carolina on Sunday, and so far has outscored opponents, 27-8, in its two wins. Pennsylvania was once up, 6-0, in the game, but held off a comeback attempt by South Carolina. Alex Edmonson, who pitched a no-hitter in South Carolina’s opening win, hit a three-run home run to key a four-run fourth inning.
