The teams from California and Mexico both stayed alive with wins on Tuesday in the 2015 Little League World Series.
The team from Seguro Social Little League in Mexicali, B.C. turned on the offense for a second straight game, beating the Tung Yuan Little League team from Chinese Taipei, 11-1, in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule on Tuesday afternoon.
Cleanup hitter Raul Leon was 3-for-3 for Mexico and drove in five runs, pacing an offense that scored 25 runs in its last two games after scoring just one run in each of its first two games. Armando Verdugo struck out six in his five innings of work, allowing one run to get the win. He struck out the side in the fifth inning and fanned his final four batters faced.
Mexico advances to play Thursday, when they will face the loser of Wednesday’s Venezuela vs. Japan matchup, playing for a berth in Saturday’s international championship game.
The team from Bonita, Calif. outlasted the team from Bowling Green, Ky. 11-3, in the nightcap on Tuesday. California moves on to play Thursday against the loser of Wednesday’s Texas vs. Pennsylvania contest, with the winner of Thursday’s game securing a spot in Saturday’s U.S. championship game.
Chinese Taipei and Kentucky were eliminated.
