The middle day of the 2016 MLB Draft is here, with MLB teams continuing to add amateur talent with eight more rounds of selections. Friday will feature rounds three through 10, with 239 total picks set for Friday. The remainder of the draft, rounds 11-40, will be held on Saturday.

There are one-minute intervals in between every pick on Friday, all the way through No. 316, the final pick of the 10th round. There is no time in between the picks in the final 30 rounds on Saturday.
The order of rounds four through 10 -- and through 40 for that matter -- is identical, with 30 picks in each round. The only difference in the third round is that the Detroit Tigers forfeited their pick for signing Justin Upton, a free agent who signed a qualifying offer with his former team, the San Diego Padres.
Detroit also signed pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, and for that lost its second-round pick. The Tigers' own first-round selection, No. 9 overall, was protected from loss since it is in the top 10.
The first 10 rounds of the draft are especially important since MLB sets recommended bonus values for each pick through the 10th round. Every signing bonus in the first 10 rounds counts against each team’s allotted total, as well as any bonus amount over $100,000 from Round 11 on.
Teams are penalized for exceeding their allotted slot values, and the penalties get increasingly punitive, including the loss of a future draft pick beginning at five percent overage. To date under the new system, no team has forfeited a draft pick for spending too much on draft bonuses.
The second day of the draft, unlike Thursday night, will not be televised. Instead, MLB.com will have a pre-draft show beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET, with Round 3 beginning at 1 p.m., all of it streamed online.
