The first two rounds of the 2016 MLB Draft will be held on Thursday night at the MLB Network studios in Secaucus, N.J., with all 30 major league teams building for their future by adding the top domestic high school and college players to their minor league systems.

On Thursday night there will be a total of 77 selections, including the first two rounds plus Competitive Balance Rounds A and B, which award picks by lottery to teams from the 10 smallest markets and 10 lowest revenue teams.
Included in the first round are 11 compensation picks for the free agents who signed with new teams after rejecting qualifying offers. Both the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals have three selections in the first round, including their own pick. San Diego was compensated for losing Justin Upton (No. 24 pick) and Ian Kennedy (No. 25), while St. Louis received picks for John Lackey (No. 33) and Jason Heyward (No. 34) leaving.
The Padres, who also have the first pick of the Competitive Balance Round B (No. 71 overall) in addition to their second-round pick (No. 48), have an MLB-high five picks among the first 77 selections on Thursday night.
Other teams with two selections in the first round include the Chicago White Sox (No. 10, No. 26 for losing Jeff Samardzija), the New York Mets (No. 19, No. 31 for losing Daniel Murphy), the Los Angeles Dodgers (No. 20, No. 32 for losing Zack Greinke) and the Washington Nationals (No. 28 for losing Jordan Zimmermann, No. 29 for losing Ian Desmond).
Washington forfeited its own regular first-round pick by signing the former Met Murphy to a three-year, $37.5 million contract in December.
In addition to the compensation picks for lost free agents, there are four picks on Tuesday from clubs failing to sign a pick from 2015. The Dodgers get pick No. 36 overall for failure to sign 2015 No. 35 pick Kyle Funkhouser, the Blue Jays get the 57th pick for failing to sign Brady Singer, the Orioles are at No. 69 after not signing Jonathan Hughes and the Twins are 74th overall for failure to sign Kyle Cody.
MLB Network will have a pre-draft show at 6 p.m. ET, with the draft itself beginning at 7 p.m., with live streaming available on MLB.com. There are four-minute intervals between picks in the first round, and one-minute intervals between picks in Competitive Balance Round A, the second round and Competitive Balance Round B.
