The chance for every team to land its next star begins Monday with the first round of the 2017 MLB Draft. The best players from high school and college will hear their names called as farm systems across the league replenish in one fell swoop.

The draft, which includes 40 rounds, runs over the course of three days. It’s backloaded with just the first two rounds and compensatory picks on the first day. Tuesday will feature Rounds 3-10, while Wednesday will wrap up with Rounds 11-40.

The Minnesota Twins had the first pick in the draft. They were reportedly considering between Louisville’s Brendan McKay and high school shortstop Royce Lewis, although big names like Hunter Greene, Kyle Wright, and MacKenzie Gore were also potentially in the mix. They ended up taking Lewis when their turn came up.

The top five is rounded out by the Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, and Atlanta Braves.

Compensation picks hit at the backend of the first round. The Blue Jays will pick No. 28 as a result of Edwin Encarnacion’s signing with the Indians, followed by the Rangers at No. 29 thanks to Ian Desmond’s signing with the Rockies, and the Cubs at No. 30 thanks to Dexter Fowler’s signing with the Cardinals.

Last year, the Philadelphia Phillies used the No. 1 overall pick to select high school outfielder Mickey Moniak. Two of the teams picking in the top five this year (Cincinnati, Atlanta) had picks in the top five last year as well.
