Four minor leaguers playing for the Tacoma Rainiers, the Mariners’ AAA affiliate, decided that they did not want to get up insanely early to catch a pre-dawn flight with the rest of their team. So as a fix, they booked a separate flight that would afford them a few more hours of beauty rest and still get them to the game on time.
Mariners minor leaguers had to take a $683 Uber ride to make a game on time
A last minute ride from Phoenix to Albuquerque isn’t cheap!

In a shocking development, the flight did not get them to the game on time.
Because of the travel snafu, the group had to find alternate plans — and fast. In an Instagram post, Mark Lowe explained that the foursome ended up ordering an Uber to drive them to the game — several hours away.
The final tab for the drive from the Phoenix airport to Albuquerque to play was a whopping $683.52. Split four ways, at least it’s ... no wait that’s still a boatload of money for a car ride, especially for minor league players.
Not to mention that because of the timing of the flight, that seven-hour car ride took place through the night so that the players would be there the next morning, which is less than ideal considering they needed their energy to play.
The Rainiers ended up losing the game 6-5, but they did give their driver a full five stars, which is only appropriate given the situation.
The lesson here, of course, is that getting up at the crack of dawn to fly with the team is usually the best decision. Even when setting your alarm clock makes you want to cry, you’ll get to your destination with minimal hassle.
