The Rockies have acquired RHP Pat Neshek from the Phillies, per a team announcement. Colorado is also receiving cash considerations and will send three prospects back to Philadelphia in return.

It was recently reported that Colorado was looking for right-handed relief help and aggressively so. Now the Rockies have found that help in Neshek, who has a 1.12 ERA in 43 games for Philadelphia, giving him the second best ERA among relievers in the league.
Through 40.1 total innings, he has a 0.82 WHIP and has struck out 45 batters, allowing runs in two innings all season. He was an All-Star selection, and it’s no wonder that he was chosen for the Midsummer Classic.
The 36-year-old was sent to the Phillies by Houston in last year’s offseason. He will be a free agent after this year with a $6.5 million team option. Most of the reliable talent for the Rockies this year is left-handed, so this is a good pickup for the team to balance its bullpen.
They are in a comfortable position for the second wildcard, 4 1/2 games up on the Cubs as it stands, with hopes to pass the Diamondbacks for the first slot as they are currently only a half game back.
The Colorado prospects heading to the Phillies are INF Jose Gomez, RHP J.D. Hammer, and RHP Alejandro Requena.
All three players are currently spending time in single-A Asheville, with Hammer also spending time in single-A Lancaster this season. Gomez, ranked 21st in the Rockies’ system, is batting .324 (leading the South Atlantic League) and has 33 RBI and 18 stolen bases on the year.
Between both Lancaster and Asheville, J.D. Hammer (such a great name) has 13 saves in 14 opportunities, with a 2.36 ERA, 42 innings pitched, and has limited opposing batters to a .182 average with no home runs. Requena has a 2.85 ERA on the season with 97 strikeouts in 117 total innings pitched.
