Joey Votto, hero and/or jerk, threw a ball out of Wrigley Field AGAIN

He’s a hero. Definitely a hero.

Hi five! I just threw a ball onto the roof of the field instead of giving it to a fan for the SECOND TIME and it was awesome.

One day ago, just 24 hours in the past, Joey Votto gathered up a foul ball and instead of tossing it to a young fan grasping for a souvenir in the stands — as any other baseball player in the world would do in this situation — he rocketed it out of the ballpark.

(Technically, he just reached the upper deck of fans. But that only proves he could stand to improve his arm strength.)

During the next game against the Cubs, after the sun was scarcely able to make another trip around the sun, Joey Votto did it again.

Because he is a gosh darn hilarious hero of baseball who absolutely does not care what you think about his life choices. The only difference is that on his second try, Votto actually managed to get the ball all the way to the roof of Wrigley.

It rolled off the roof and back into the seats, so a fan did eventually get it, but it’s the thought that counts, and what Votto thought is that he wanted to send a baseball right out into the stratosphere.

Votto is a man on a mission right now. He just really wants to get that ball out over the roof and possibly into orbit if he’s able. The Reds have two more games at Wrigley Field this week, which means he has two more tries to make it happen.

If he sets his mind to it, and tries really hard to be an impressively dedicated jerk, he just might do it. Which makes him a hero to us.
