The 2 Boog Powells finally met for the first at Camden Yards

Barbecue, Boogs, and baseball talk.

Boog Powell, Orioles legend of the ‘60s and ‘70s, and Boog Powell, current A’s outfielder, will finally meet on Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The A’s are visiting Baltimore this week, so the elder Boog is hosting the younger of the pair at his eponymous barbecue restaurant at Camden Yards — Boog’s BBQ.

The younger Boog told the Chronicle:

“I’ve always told myself I’d meet him here, and it’s finally here! It’s not really fazing me yet, but it’ll hit me tomorrow. They’re sending a cart to take me to his barbecue; he asked what kind of meat I like so I think he’s going to make something good. ... I’m excited.”

About the summit, A’s second baseman Jed Lowrie, laughed and said, “Every generation has its Boog.”

He was also referencing a third Boog Powell in that statement, as the two major leaguers have said they will try to reach 12-year-old Boog Powell via video call after the hard-hitting youngster made an impression during this summer’s Little League World Series.

Oakland’s Powell is of course not actually named Boog — he was born Herschel Mack Powell IV and adopted the nickname as a kid. Besides the main purpose of not getting confused with his dad or grandfather, it does roll off the tongue much better than his mouthful of a given name.

He’s been waiting to meet his nickname-sake for years, so hopefully the Summit of Boogs will meet his expectations, and that the promised barbecue will be delicious.

Update: They met!

The two Boog Powells (Boog Powelli?) finally met, and shared some fun facts about going by the same name for so long.

Between the elder Boog getting asked whether the younger was his grandson (answer: “No, but I wish he was!”) to the younger Boog saying that people come up to him and ask whether he’s met “the real Boog Powell” (answer: “I’m real too!”) the meeting looks as if it went well and the two bonded a bit.

They also called the third Boog Powell after their barbecue lunch, but there’s no word on what the trio discussed. The 12-year old was in study hall though, which makes for a great story to tell his friends.

It was also the first time the oldest Boog had ever FaceTimed, which is a great story for all of them.
