Due to Hurricane Harvey’s descent on Houston over the weekend, the Astros’ next two series are being relocated to other fields around the country.
One Astros player is not happy with the Rangers’ decision making after Hurricane Harvey
The Astros will play the Rangers at Tropicana Field this week.

This week’s series against the Rangers will be played at Tropicana Field in Florida, with the following matchup against the Mets expected to happen at the same neutral location, although that hasn’t been confirmed just yet.
Reports are circulating that one reason it took longer for the Astros to find a home this week, and the reason they aren’t simply staying put in Dallas to face the Rangers, is that the Rangers wouldn’t swap home-and-homes with Houston.
The Astros were set to host the Rangers this week, with the Rangers hosting in September, and reports say the Astros simply wanted to swap that. But the Rangers wouldn’t go for it and would allegedly only agree to host this week if they could keep both series at their field.
While there are various reasons why this could be the case — from fan convenience to advance notice issues — the most cynical criticism of the team’s decision is that they want the gate receipts for both series and won’t accommodate the Astros because of the money they could lose by swapping the series.
Whether that’s actually the case or not, Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (currently rehabbing in Fresno) didn’t take well to the decision. In a pointed tweet, McCullers said, “Classy as always, should be absolutely ashamed. Greed never takes off days, apparently,” before sending well wishes to Houston.
On the Astros’ side of things, they are donating $4 million to relief efforts between the ownership group and the team’s foundation.
Regardless of what the Rangers’ reasoning is, it’s not important in the grand scheme of things. The league sorted it out, the games will be played, and the focus should be on the people of Houston and the tragedy unfolding that will take months to recover from.
Houston manager A.J. Hinch said it best in a statement to MLB.com and Jon Morosi.
“We have to play where they tell us to play. Our team is hanging in there given the circumstances back home. Where we play or how many days we play away is very secondary to the things Houstonians are going through right now. We worry about our families, our friends, our fans. Thats the first thing on our minds when we wake up.”
If the Rangers actually had selfish reasons for this decision, that’s not a good look during a situation like this. However, it’s impossible to know and McCullers may just be on edge due to the situation back home. The priority right now absolutely should be the city and relief rather than any bickering within the league.
