In the latest occasion of the Mets being the Mets, they lost Thursday’s game against the Rockies 5-4 due to a walk-off walk. It wasn’t just any shrimp either, as ball four for the Mets came courtesy of a Hansel Robles pitch that flew all the way to the backstop after he was ahead in the count 0-2.
Numb fingers and pinched genitals might explain the Mets’ pitching woes against Colorado
There might be a good reason for New York’s fiasco of a ninth inning on Thursday.

So, not great but also pretty much a perfect summation of the Mets’ pitching this season.
Some fans might be conditioned to expect such a catastrophic ninth inning (Colorado managed to win without recording a hit at all in the inning), some new details could shed light on why exactly Robles’ pitching performance went so awry.
After the game, Robles revealed that he couldn’t feel parts of his fingers in the ninth inning but made the decision to stay in the game. Sure, that might make it slightly hard to throw a ball, much less pitch well in any capacity.
The numb fingers weren’t the worst injury Robles experienced during the game, as he also fell awkwardly during the inning prior and “pinched his genitals,” which is just ... uh ... um ... nope!
While that’s a pretty good explanation for a final inning that did not go according to plan at all, both of those things are probably painful enough that Robles could have asked out of the game and gone to recuperate in the clubhouse.
