Well, it took them 32 seasons but somebody on the Royals finally broke Steve Balboni’s franchise home run record, which had stood since 1985.
Steve Balboni congratulates Mike Moustakas on breaking his longstanding Royals HR record
Kansas City’s franchise home run record hadn’t changed since 1985.

It was the lowest single-season home run record for any franchise in the league and it was not only a sad number but a depressingly long time since anybody had topped the lowly record of 36.
But Mike Moustakas took care of things with only a little more than a week to go in the season, hitting his 37th home run on the season and putting Balboni’s name one row down in the record books from now on.
Balboni sent along a video to congratulate Moose on the accomplishment, saying he “had a nice run” but also admitting that he was surprised the record stood for this long.
The Royals still need Moustakas to hit at least four more home runs before the season is out for them to not have the lowest franchise home run record still (the Mets are sitting at 41) but at the very least, Balboni’s three decade-plus hold on the record has ended.
