Slugging outfielder Jay Bruce reportedly agreed to terms with the New York Mets on a free agent contract, with a three-year, $39 million deal first reported by Jerry Crasnick of ESPN and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Bruce hit .254/.324/.508 with a career-high 36 home runs in 2017 with the Mets and Cleveland Indians, his fifth season of 30 or more home runs in the last seven years.
The lefty-hitting outfielder hit seven of those 36 home runs with Cleveland after an Aug. 9 trade from New York. Bruce added two more home runs in the postseason for the Indians, hitting .278 (5-for-18) in the American League Division Series.
Bruce turns 31 on the day after opening day in 2018.
Early in the offseason Bruce was rumored to be seeking a five-year contract in the $80-90 million range, with the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Seattle Mariners all linked in pursuit of the outfielder.
In 10 major league seasons, Bruce is a .241/.319/.472 hitter with 277 home runs, 272 doubles, and 838 RBI.
