The World Series is over and the hot stove season is about to take over the baseball calendar, but first we have awards season, with baseball’s best in 2018 recognized throughout November. Here is the schedule of the relevant awards announcements this month.
The 2018 MLB awards schedule
When will we find out who won MVP, Cy Young, and more?

Sunday, Nov. 4
Gold Glove Awards
The first set of honors comes on the fielding side, with the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards announced on Sunday night (9 p.m. ET, ESPN). Major league managers and coaches vote on these, with the caveat that you can’t vote for a player on your own team. There is also a “SABR defensive index” that combines five sources of defensive statistics that accounts for a quarter of the results.
Among the finalists are Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, who is looking for his sixth Gold Glove in six MLB seasons, and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, an eight-time Gold Glove winner.
Monday, Nov. 5
BBWAA awards finalists
The Baseball Writers Association of America votes on four awards in each league — Most Valuable Player, Cy Young Award, Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year — and each of those will get their own announcement days. But first, the BBWAA will reveal the top three finishers for each award to kick things off (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET).
Thursday, Nov. 8
Silver Slugger Awards
MLB managers and coaches vote on the Silver Slugger Awards (6 p.m. ET, MLB Network), given to the top offensive players at each position in each league. Notable here is potentially Michael Lorenzen of the Reds, who led all major league pitchers with four home runs in 2018, in just 34 plate appearances. The twist is that Lorenzen is a reliever, and no relief pitcher has even won a Silver Slugger, which has been awarded since 1980.
Monday, Nov. 12
Rookies of the Year
The BBWAA awards begin on Monday with the Rookies of the Year (6 p.m. ET, MLB Network), highlighted by the National League battle between 20-year-old Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Braves and 19-year-old Juan Soto of the Nationals, who were stars in their inaugural seasons despite still not being legally able to drink.
Tuesday, Nov. 13
Managers of the Year
Among the candidates for top manager in each league (6 p.m. ET, MLB Network) include A’s manager Bob Melvin, who led the team with the lowest payroll in MLB to 97 wins and a Wild Card berth, and rookie manager Alex Cora, who won 108 games with the Red Sox on his way to winning the World Series, though the voting was done before the postseason.
In the National League, Brian Snitker was at the helm of a Braves team that went from 90 losses to 90 wins and an NL East title, and Craig Counsell, who led the Brewers to 96 wins and the No. 1 seed in the National League playoffs.
Wednesday, Nov. 14
Cy Young Awards
The favorites for top pitcher in the NL and AL here are clear (6 p.m. ET, MLB Network), with Jacob deGrom of the Mets and Blake Snell of the Rays each posting sub-2.00 ERAs. deGrom especially is poised to make history, with his 10 wins despite his stellar 1.70 ERA potentially the fewest of any Cy Young Award-winning starter.
Thursday, Nov. 15
Most Valuable Players
Awards season culminates with the MVPs (6 p.m. ET, MLB Network). Mookie Betts of the Red Sox might be the favorite in the American League, if it’s not his teammate J.D. Martinez. What’s interesting is where Mike Trout will finish after six consecutive top-four finishes.
In the National League, Christian Yelich caught fire in the second half and finished just shy of the triple crown, so he’s the favorite. Seeing where the pitcher deGrom finished will be something to watch here.
