On Monday, 10 people were killed by a deliberate van attack on the streets of Toronto. Dozens more were injured and the city was left in shock.
Blue Jays hold moment of silence for Toronto van attack victims
They also honored first responders in the pre-game ceremony.

The Blue Jays didn’t play that day, but before their first game back since the attack, played against the Red Sox, they honored the people who lost their lives and welcomed some of the first responders who were on the scene. The team put together a short memorial video as well.
The video, scored to a “Lean on Me” cover by Findlay Brown, included shots of candles lit in memory of victims and shots of the scene of the attack. It was followed by a brief moment of silence.
The Jays also strung up a massive #TorontoStrong banner in center field before the game. Shots of the crowd during the pre-game ceremony found faces filled with emotion, part of a city collectively mourning and in shock after such a senseless tragedy.
This was a lovely ceremony put together by the Jays, reminding everyone of the heroism present in situations like this, even as the victims are remembered and the city reminds everyone that it will only be collectively stronger in the face of such pointless violence.
