Steve Kerr, noted talented basketball player and pretty decent NBA coach to boot, wasn’t always just basketball-focused. Like many athletes he played other sports and baseball was one of them. During media availability on Thursday, as the Warriors prepare to face the Pelicans in Round 2 of the NBA Playoffs, Kerr told a story about the time he got to pitch at Dodger Stadium in the LA City Championship.
Steve Kerr once pitched at Dodger Stadium and it turns out he’s no Kershaw
Bret Saberhagen ruined his day.

Spoiler: it did not go well. But Kerr laughed while telling it so it’s safe to say he’s not still stinging over the outcome.
As Kerr tells it, he didn’t let up any earned runs during the game. But he did let up a mess of unearned runs thanks to an error and a bunch of hot bats — including the bat of one Bret Saberhagen.
Here is the game story from that 1982 contest:
4 2/3 innings is nothing to scoff at though. And there are certainly worse high school sports stories than “Bret Saberhagen pitched a no-hitter against my team and also lit me up when I was on the mound.”
Probably good that he stuck to basketball in the long run though. The NBA has worked out for him well enough.
