The Mariners had 12 hits against the Blue Jays on Tuesday night in Toronto and they won 5-0. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, had no hits in the loss. Seattle pitcher James Paxton went the distance for a no-hitter, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

He’s the first Canadian to throw a no-no since 1945!

He was hurling 100mph at one point in the ninth inning and it only took him 99 pitches to get the job done.
Paxton is of course Canadian, so maybe his stuff was that much spicier tonight since he was pitching on Canadian soil. That’s how it works right? He’s the first Canadian pitcher to pitch a no-hitter since Dick Fowler in 1945 (gosh Dick Fowler is such a 1945 name), and this is the first time the Jays have been no hit since some guy named Justin Verlander did it in May of 2011.
Kyle Seager saved the no-no in the bottom of the 7th inning when he stole a hit from Kevin Pillar with an absolutely incredible play down the line. Paxton owes him a beer for sure after that snag.
Before his gem of a performance tonight, Paxton made headlines this season when an eagle landed on him during pre-game ceremonies in Minnesota. A lucky eagle? Probably. No way to tell for sure so let’s just say “lucky eagle.”
