One National League Wild Card team will come from the NL Central, and other from the NL West.

The Milwaukee Brewers are tied both for the top Wild Card position and the NL Central with the Chicago Cubs after 162 games. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies are in a similar predicament, tied atop the NL West after Sunday.

The NL Central runner-up will host the Wild Card Game, to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The will play the NL West runner-up.

Both divisions will be decided on Monday, with two tiebreakers — one in Chicago and one in Los Angeles.

The Brewers were in first place in the National League Central for 69 days this season, but have mostly trailed since the All-Star game. However, after falling a season-worst six games behind Chicago on Aug. 28, Milwaukee surged back atop the division race thanks to 22 wins in 29 games.

The Dodgers surged to the top of the division with an 18-7 stretch, even building a 2½-game lead after sweeping the Rockies. But they followed that up by splitting their next six games, allowing Colorado to pass them in the NL West. The Rockies won eight in a row after getting swept and the Dodgers needed a sweep in San Francisco in the final weekend to even things up.

The St. Louis Cardinals finished 40-28 under new manager Mike Shildt, after struggling to just a game over .500 before Mike Matheny was fired on July 14. The Cardinals’ losses at home dropped them out of the second Wild Card spot, and were eliminated on Saturday.

Both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies spent weeks in first place in their division this year, but a late fade knocked both out before the final week of the season.
