The Boston Red Sox set a team mark for the best record in franchise history with 108 wins, and in doing so clinched the best record in baseball. That locks Boston in to facing the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series, which will begin Friday, Oct. 5 at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox clinched the AL East with a win on Sept. 20 over New York, and their 108 wins are the most in baseball since the 2001 Seattle Mariners won 116.

The Yankees hosted and won the American League Wild Card Game for a second straight season, this time beating Oakland Athletics in New York.

Boston was 10-9 against the Yankees this season, and were 55-21 at Fenway Park this season. This is the third consecutive postseason division title for the Red Sox. The Yankees have reached via Wild Card in each of the past two seasons.

The ALDS will mark the fourth postseason meeting between the two longtime rivals — joining 1999, 2003 and 2004 — and the earliest one at that, with the previous three meetings coming in the AL Championship Series.

TBS will televise the best-of-five ALDS, with Brian Anderson, Ron Darling and Lauren Shehadi on the call.
