Shohei Ohtani has a case as the most spectacular athlete on Earth. His talent is finally on the biggest stage in the baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 World Series, but he had to leave Game 2 after suffering a scary injury on a failed stolen base attempt.

With the Dodgers leading 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ohtani tried to steal second base. He was thrown out, and then had to exit the game with a left shoulder injury suffered during his slide.

Ohtani didn’t return, and received an MRI after the game. He suffered a shoulder subluxation, according to the Dodgers.

Ohtani will reportedly be in the lineup for Los Angeles in Game 3 on Monday, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts:

Here are Roberts’ original comments about Ohtani’s injury after Game 2:

The Dodgers won the game, and have a 2-0 lead over the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series. Watch the play here:

Here’s another look at the play:

Ohtani reportedly said “I popped my shoulder out” after the play:

Here’s a better explanation of what a shoulder subluxation is:

Ohtani became the first 50/50 club member this season when he hit 54 home runs and stole 59 bases. He’s not pitching this season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, but he’s still a lock to win National League MVP in his first season with the Dodgers.
