MLS 2012, Week 29 preview and fixtures: The playoff race, now with everyone getting results

All of the teams in the battle for the final playoff spots are picking up results as the race for the postseason heats up.

Everybody wants to be in the playoffs! That seems obvious, but the results actually showed it last weekend as every team in the race for the one of the last postseason spots got results.

Of course, that means that some teams lost, but everyone ceased to acknowledge that Chivas, New England Philadelphia and Toronto existed months ago. Everybody got results!

Toronto FC vs. D.C. United

Saturday, 1:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

D.C. is still improbably undefeated since Dwayne De Rosario went down and TFC doesn't even know what an undefeated streak is so don't count on them breaking it.

Pick: D.C. 2-1.

New York Red Bulls vs. Chicago Fire

Saturday, 3:30 p.m ET, NBC

Eric Soler had just started to figure out MLS and his Red Bulls team was into second place, so naturally they fired him. New York is so dependable. You would think they are scared of success.

Pick: Draw, 1-1.

Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution

Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

Why?

Pick: Seriously, why?

Houston Dynamo vs. Montreal Impact

Saturday, 8:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live

The uber determined Impact would probably headbutt a wall 1,000 times if Jesse Marsch asked them too, but even they cannot put a dent in the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. It is defended by a forcefield, Tally Hall's new truck and unbearable heat. Good job, good effort, Impact.

Pick: Houston, 2-0.

Colorado Rapids vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Saturday, 9:00 p.m., MLS Live

The Earthquakes are going to win the Supporters’ Shield, but there is some debate about their postseason chances. On one hand, their form has dipped some. On the other hand, Wondo. There is also concern about whether they can continue to mount miraculous comebacks in the playoffs. But Wondo.

Pick: San Jose, 2-1.

LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake

Saturday, 9:00 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

A.J. DeLaGarza is out for LA, which could ruin some of the fun. Bruce Arena has a ton of options and could have broken out his tactics hat for this big occasion as the Galaxy and RSL battle for second place in the West, but now he may have to go conservative to protect the back line. The injury monster is such a mean man.

Pick: Draw, 2-2.

Columbus Crew vs. Sporting Kansas City

Sunday, 4:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live

By the time Kansas City takes the field on Sunday they could be a win away from clinching the Eastern Conference crown. They could also put Columbus on the verge of missing the postseason. It will be a big match and it will have one even bigger storyline -- how does central Ohio take to Kei Kamara's blonde beard?

Pick: Kansas City, 2-1.

Chivas USA vs. FC Dallas

Sunday, 7:00 p.m. ET, Galavision

Does Chivas think the Earth will explode if they score?

Pick: Probably.

Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers

Sunday, 9:00 p.m. ET, ESPN

If the Timbers miraculously win and steal the Cascadia Cup, do not confuse the tears of more than 60,000 Sounders fans for regular Seattle rain. It is much saltier, and it comes with a touch of humor.

Pick: Seattle, 2-1.
