Toronto FC vs. D.C. United: Final score 1-2, Black and Red somehow steal three points

D.C. United were poor for almost all of their match against Toronto FC, but stole a late winner.

D.C. United were thoroughly outplayed by the worst team in MLS for 87 minutes on Saturday afternoon. In the 88th minute, a fumbled save fell to an unlikely goalscorer, and the (at least recently) finishing-impaired D.C. striker Hamdi Salihi netted the winner, securing a vital three points for his side in a 1-0 victory. Yet again, Toronto FC have put together a decent performance, but failed to take points.

Toronto got off to a solid start, forcing a couple early saves out of Bill Hamid. Unfortunately for everyone taking in the match, things ceased to be interesting after about 15 minutes, and the first half was an incredibly dull affair.

Things got a bit more interesting early in the second half as Toronto started to commit numbers forward. The home side missed a number of great opportunities -- with Jeremy Hall hitting one of the worst shots of the year in the 64th minute -- and Hamid was forced to make one good second half save on Ryan Johnson.

United brought on Maicon Santos for Marcelo Saragosa in the 77th minute, and that attacking change seemed to light a spark under Ben Olsen's side. Santos created the winner with a shot that was saved by Milos Kocic, but the Toronto keeper let the ball go under his body. It fell to a very surprised Salihi, who provided the finish from inside the penalty area to steal an arguably undeserved three points.
