Houston Dynamo vs. Montreal Impact, MLS 2012: Orange settle for tie

Will Bruin and Sanna Nyassi trade goals as the Dynamo pick up a valuable point, but leave themselves vulnerable.

Will Bruin scored a 44th minute goal to give the Houston Dynamo an early lead, but a defensive breakdown allowed the Montreal Impact to pull out a 1-1 tie on Saturday. The Dynamo pulled two points ahead of the Columbus Crew for the final playoff spot in the East, but have also played one more game.

Unfortunately for the Dynamo, they surely will come away feeling as though they left points on the field. The real heart-breaking moment came at the very end of stoppage time when Brian Ching appeared to score the winning goal when he got behind the Montreal defense and chipped goalkeeper Troy Perkins. But after a discussion between the assistant referee and referee, he was ruled to have been offside when Cam Weaver got a flick onto the ball.

That was actually the second waved off goal in stoppage time, as Sanna Nyassi also scored from an offside position.

Bruin's goal came on some nice build up in which Corey Ashe sent in a ball to Calen Carr on the left wing. Carr then sent a low cross into the box that Bruin hit inside the far post. Although it was Bruin's 12th goal of the year, it ended a five-game goalless drought and was just his second tally since July 15 -- a stretch of 12 games.

As much as the Dynamo needed the win, though, they couldn't hold the lead. Nyass was able to get behind the defense in the 66th minute. His initial shot was stopped by Tally Hall, but he cleaned up his own rebound.
