Roland Alberg is MLS Player of the Week for Week 16

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring three goals in a game is pretty impressive, let’s be real. Scoring three in a game and causing an own goal in a game in which your team scores four goals is even better. And then having a second game a few days later and scoring another goal (four officially, sorta like five if we count the OG) is super awesome.

Yes, it’s a good time to be Philadelphia Union midfielder Roland Alberg, and he wins SB Nation’s MLS Player of the Week for Week 16. The 25-year-old, in his first season in MLS, hadn’t seen much action for his new side until recently, but he’s settling in, and at this pace, he’ll score approximately eleventy-thousand goals by the end of the season. OK, maybe he won’t score four every week, but Philadelphia fans will surely hope he can become a regular contributor from here on out.

Full results for Week 16, with first-place votes getting three points, second-place votes receiving two points and third-place votes earning a point each:

Player Points
Roland Alberg 23
Dom Dwyer 9
Diego Valeri 7
Marcelo Sarvas 5
Mauro Diaz 4
Jalen Robinson 3
Kevin Molino 3
Lamar Neagle 3
Ronald Matarrita 3
Sebastian Giovinco 2
Hilario Grajeda* 2
Kekuta Manneh 2
Nick Rimando 1
Micheal Azira 1

*Some voter shenanigans for the week, as Alicia Tolar voted for four people with three votes, and one of her choices, Hilario Grajeda, is a referee. Pretty sure this is a protest vote in light of her Houston team getting two PKs called against them in the final minutes in Portland.
