Although many MMA fans have been screaming for Jose Aldo to make the move north to lightweight -- presumably in the UFC -- it looks like the king of 145 pounds will have at least one more title defense in the WEC's featherweight division. The 'lucky' candidate for that fight is rumored to be Mark Hominick, someone who fared pretty well in the UFC's lightweight division before moving down in weight to compete in the WEC. Hominick went 2-0 in his time with the UFC, scoring wins over Yves Edwards at UFC 58 and Jorge Gurgel at Ultimate Fight Night 5.
Jose Aldo Looking At Possible WEC Title Fight With Mark Hominick In Early 2011
↵Aldo tells Tatame his thoughts on the potential matchup.
↵↵“Whoever it may be, I always respect everybody. We may already have a title defense in January with Mark Hominick, a Canadian very good in kickboxing.”
↵↵This is actually a pretty intriguing fight. No one Aldo has beaten up on recently has the kind of standup Hominick brings to the table. Where Aldo has been able to force fighters who are primarily wrestlers into striking matches, it will be interesting to see how Aldo’s camp at Black House formulates a gameplan for this fight. Will Aldo feel comfortable on the feet with the Canadian kickboxer? Or will Aldo take Hominick to the mat where the striker presumably won’t be as comfortable. Hominick has been able to improve leaps and bounds with his grappling over the last few years, but there is no doubt that he will look to avoid being outclassed on the ground with Aldo.
