Dana White made an appearance on the Jim Rome show this afternoon, which was fine, but it meant I had to listen to Jim Rome for some period of time. It hurt, but I did it for YOU, man. Anyway, White wanted to stress this flight's allure as being that this title fight between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez Saturday night is not the 'typical' heavyweight matchup. There's something interesting about pushing the best characteristic of this fight as being something your company doesn't ordinarily do, but whatever. I agree whole heartedly.

This is not the typical heavyweight title fight, but neither was the last one. ' Shane Carwin' is to 'normal' as 'Jim Rome' is to 'soothing,' so as long as the UFC can avoid putting on more heavyweight fights like Frank Mir vs. Mirko Cro Cop, I think we'll be ok. White's point was that the undeniable amount of athleticism on both sides of this fight is something fans aren't usually accustomed to being treated to when watching heavyweights compete. A lot of this was all promised prior to UFC 116, but due to Shane Carwin's over-eagerness to put the fight away in the first round, fans didn't get to see the fight go as long as some wanted.
↵This may be the first time in a while we see a heavyweight fight not be dragged into the later rounds, but instead be naturally taken there because both fighters have the endurance to continue and fortitude not be put away early. I’m praying this fight goes into the third round, but I’ll be happy as long as it makes it through two.
