Robbie Lawler Vs. Matt Lindland Added to ‘Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu’ Dec. 4 In St. Louis

News coming by way of MMA Junkie that a middleweight matchup between Robbie 'Ruthless' Lawler and Matt Lindland has been added to December's 'Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu' televised card in St. Louis. The event will take place at the Scottrade Center on Dec. 4.

Lawler has been bouncing around the MMA scene for the last five or so years, fighting for seven different organizations since 2004. After going an unimpressive 4-3 in the UFC and dropping back to back losses in 2004 to Nick Diaz and Evan Tanner, Lawler has become a journeyman never really finding a home. His tenure with Strikeforce isn't exactly looking much better considering he's gone 1-2 since his contract was picked up following EliteXC's bankruptcy. It's not as if he was given any easy fights, but considering the lack of depth in Strikeforce's middleweight division that should be expected. His KO victory over Melvin Manhoef in January seems like a distant memory and his struggles to make a 190 pound catchweight in June to fight Babalu Sobral don't give me warm and fuzzy feelings about the outlook of his career. His two losses were both at a catchweight, but his fight with Lindland will be at the usual 185 pound limit.

Lindland is the consummate journeyman and has been beaten by the who's who of the MMA world. Dropping fights to guys like Murilo Bustamante, Rampage Jackson, Fedor Emelianenko, Vitor Belfort, and Jacaré Souza, no one is going to question Lindland's heart. Still competing at the age of 40, Lindland looks to be winding down. Lindland is coming off a win over up and comer Kevin Casey at Strikeforce Challengers 8 in May that saw the veteran control the majority of the fight from the top position on the ground, picking the younger and less experienced Rickson Gracie product apart with punches and elbows. Lindland was originally set to take on Luke Rockhold at this weekend's "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2" event until his opponent suffered an unfortunate shoulder injury.
