When it was announced that the UFC and WEC would be merging many fans worried this might mean that there would be less aggressive pursuit of talent as the new, bigger UFC would not have room for more fighters. Clearly that would not be the case, but just to make it clear, the UFC is reportedly negotiating with Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto. MMA Junkie has the confirmation:
UFC Rumored To Be In Negotiations With Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto
↵↵But with a merger already in motion between the WEC and UFC, those doors have opened again, and Yamamoto (18-3) is in active talks with the UFC, sources close to the organization confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
If signed, his debut could come as soon as February or March.

Yamamoto was long considered by many to be the best featherweight in the world. He had won 14 consecutive bouts before dropping a decision to Joe Warren in the DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix. He then lost his next bout to Masanori Kanehara before rebounding with a win over Federico Lopez in May.
↵The addition of Yamamoto would be huge and exciting for the UFC.
