Mark Hominick was told that a win over George Roop would land him a featherweight title shot against Jose Aldo. He made sure that he was not going to be denied by stopping Roop in the first round. Early on Roop was trying to keep the fight at distance with his long reach but eventually Hominick started to get inside and land punches. Roop was dropped multiple times in the round and finally the ref jumped in to stop the fight even though Roop was throwing his legs up to defend. Roop protested the stoppage but his legs were so shot from the punches that he was barely able to remain on his feet to congratulate Hominick after the fight.
