UFC 128 Results: Gleison Tibau Defeats Kurt Pellegrino By Split Decision

The first Facebook UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones fight featured a lightweight tilt between New Jersey native Kurt Pellegrino and American Top Team fighter Gleison Tibau. Both fighters were looking to earn a place on the main card. The hometown fighter Pellegrino entered as the betting underdog.

The referee officiating the action is Herb Dean.

ROUND 1 - Tibau starts southpaw as Pellegrino starts orthodox. Both fighters feeling each other out early. Left hand for Tibau and he attempts something like a standing cradle as Tibau drives him into the fence. Pellegrino drives forward with punches but lands nothing but air. Pellegrino shoots in on a single and Tibau circles out, escapes and underhooks Pellegrino as he pushes him into the fence. Hard double lands for Tibau, but he over commits and Pellegrino is able to create space to stand. Now Pellegrino goes back to the double leg attempt, but can’t get it. Body kick mildly lands for Pellegrino. Close round.

SBNation.com scores this round 10-9 Tibau.

ROUND 2 - The fighters open the round, again, feeling each other out. Pellegrino takes the center of the cage, but a left straight lands for Tibau. Again Pellegrino charges with punches and again hits nothing, but Tibau is also missing a lot. Two huge right hands land for Pellegrino as Tibau stands in front him. Pellegrino follows up with a huge double leg takedown and is working ground and pound on top. Tibau is able to stand, but now he sports a cut over his left eye.

ROUND 3 - Charging left for Tibau misses as does a sloppy double leg attempt. Pellegrino gets nailed with a nice left by Tibau and the Brazilian appears to be working more this round. Tibau attempts a double off a diving left hand, but can’t get it so he drives Pellegrino into the fence. Left hand lands for Tibau off of a double jab. Then a right hook. Single by Pellegrino is stuffed, but he hands on and uses it to push Tibau into the fence. Tibau lands a takedown of his own and passes to side. Pellegrino is able to stand, but eats a few punches as a result. Pellegrino trying for a single against the fence, but Tibau easily able to stuff it. Knee tap takedown for Tibau with less than 40 seconds into the fight. Pellegrino dives for a kneebar, but it goes nowhere.
