Bellator 38 Results: Christian M’Pumbu Comes Back To Knock Out Chris Davis In Round Three

This is the live blog for Chris Davis vs. Christian M’Pumbu. Davis is 10-2 in MMA, and enters this fight on a three-fight winning streak. M’Pumbu is 15-3-1 in MMA, and lost his last fight to Yoshiyuki Nakanishi at DEEP 47.

Round 1 - Our referee for this bout is Mike Cain. M’Pumbu opens with a leg kick. The two trade punches in wild exchanges. M’Pumbu grabs the Thai plum and lands a knee to the body. He loses the position and Davis has him up against the fence. M’Pumbu spins, lands a knee, and then puts Davis on the mat with a single leg. M’Pumbu with punches, but Davis grabs his leg and puts M’Pumbu on the mat. M’Pumbu look for a knee, but he doesn’t get it. Davis ends up on his back in the scramble. One hook in, but he transitions into mount. Halfway through the round. Davis lands a couple good punches before M’Pumbu gives up his back. Big punches now in a half-mount. M’Pumbu escapes into guard. He’s got a triangle. Adjusts the position, but still doesn’t have the position. Davis stacks and forces M’Pumbu to give it up. Guard now. Ten seconds left. The round ends with Davis on top.

Round 2 - Davis opens with a low kick. M’Pumbu responds in turn. Nice jab from M’Pumbu. Referee Mike Cain calls time to replace M’Pumbu’s mouthpiece. Leg kick from Davis, and now he puts M’Pumbu on the mat. M’Pumbu with shots from the bottom. Davis tries to pass into mount and M’Pumbu sweeps. M’Pumbu gives up the position, and now gives up his back. M’Pumbu tries to roll, which allows Davis to get one hook in. M’Pumbu steps over, and grabs a kneebar. He has it for a moment, but Davis kicks his leg free. Davis takes the back again with one hook in. Half-guard now. Davis hasn’t looked to strike much at all here. Hammer fists from Davis are partially blocked by M’Pumbu. M’Pumbu explodes, and now he has Davis down with his back exposed. Davis stands. Thirty seconds left in the round. M’Pumbu tries to drag Davis down, but ends up on the bottom. The round ends with in an awkward leg-in triangle position.

Round 3 - M’Pumbu opens with jabs. Right uppercut. Just misses with a left hook. Another right hand from M’Pumbu. Davis dives in with a lazy takedown, and M’Pumbu makes him pay. Davis is tiring. M’Pumbu has his back, landing measured punches. Two good left hands from M’Pumbu. Davis back to his feet. He’s bleeding now. Two good shots from M’Pumbu. Another lazy shot from Davis. M’Pumbu has his back again. Nice right hand from M’Pumbu. Two more good lefts. Nice knee to the body. Ninety seconds left. Referee Mike Cain steps in to stop the bout. Not sure if Davis tapped, because it didn’t look like Davis was finished. Davis isn’t complaining. Replay shows Davis going limp after a punch.
