UFC 129 Results: Rory MacDonald Dominates Nate Diaz For Three Rounds

The second fight of the UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields broadcast on Spike TV is Rory MacDonald vs. Nate Diaz. This is a welterweight contest (170lbs). Prospect MacDonald looks to rebound after a loss to Carlos Condit while Nate Diaz must defeat MacDonald to stay relevant in the weight class.

The referee in charge of the action is “Big” John McCarthy.

ROUND 1 - Diaz begins southpaw as the orthdox MacDonald already begins to stalk. Both men trying to establish the distance to their benefit early with jabs and lead foot positioning. Now Diaz is doing the stalking. Head kick from MacDonald nearly finds the mark, but Diaz ducks and clinches. MacDonald changes levels for a takedown and is nearly reversed on a switch from Diaz, but the two quickly separate. Superman punch for MacDonald lands. Outside leg kicks from MacDonald land intermittently. MacDonald superman punches his way into a clinch. Diaz tries body punching, drops levels for a single, but is stuffed. The round ends there.

ROUND 2 - Double underhooks for MacDonald and he presses Diaz into fence. Diaz going back to body with left hand leads and reaches for a takedown, but it goes nowhere. With a modified ankle pick, MacDonald pulls Diaz to the ground. Diaz recovers, but eats a few punches along the way. Takedown again for MacDonald. The Canadian stands back out. Left hand lead for Diaz finds the mark. Hard uppercut for MacDonald drives Diaz’s head back as they separate from the clinch. Near trip for Diaz lands, but MacDonald pops up from his knees immediately. Diaz dives in head hunting, doesn’t land much and they clinch again. Diaz levels changes again and can’t get a takedown. MacDonald using the same superman punch to outside leg kick combo GSP made famous to score points here on Diaz.

ROUND 3 - head kick misses for MacDonald. Superman punch for MacDonald barely misses. Huge slam for MacDonald not once but twice as he drives Diaz up with a suplex and throws him down to the mat back first. Hard right hands now lands on top for MacDonland and again Diaz is suplexed. Diaz is hanging on and goes for the takedown against the fence on MacDonald. Diaz literally pulling guard now and almost gets caught in a cradle. Diaz trying single leg trips but can’t get anything. Diaz attempts a guillotine but slips off and now MacDonald is on top. MacDonald trying to avoid the upkicks while he fires off punches on top. The round and fight end there.
