UFC 131 Results: Dustin Poirier Outworks Jason Young Over Three Rounds

Dustin Poirier and Jason Young meet in the third bout of the evening at featherweight. Dustin Poirier derailed Josh Grispi in an upset at UFC 125. Jason Young is making his UFC debut. Our referee for this bout is "Big" John McCarthy.

ROUND 1 - Poirier comes out southpaw. Jab lands for Young. They trade leg kicks. Poirier comes forward with punches. Young catches him with a right hand, but Poirier makes him pay with three or four of his own. Clinch. Young grabs a kimura standing, but Poirier takes him down. Young to his knees, and now his feet. Young turns Poirier around. Poirier reverses the position. Young reverses again. Knee to the midsection from Poirier. He follows up with wide hooks. Back to the center. Poirier lands an inside leg kick. Young with a roundkick that Poirier blocks. Poirier catches him with an uppercut. Left hook catches Young. Young responds with a punch of his own. Poirier lands a left hook as they come apart. Trade leg kicks. Poirier with a double jab. Poirier with an inside leg kick. Avoids a right hand. Young responds with an inside leg kick, that Poirier returns. Straight left for Poirier. Combo lands for Young. Good round.

Bodyshot. Inside leg kick. Young responds. Two trading punches. Young getting the better of it. Jason Young has a cut under his left eye from the first round. Young lands two punches after Poirier comes in. Poirier lands punches as Young misses a wild kick. Young has him up against the fence. Takedown from Poirier as the round ends.

Left hand sends Young stumbling backward. Right hand grazes Young. Poirier with the Thai plum. Young breaks it, but finds himself against thee fence. Poirier drops down for legs. Youtube stream is down again. It’s a good thing the Facebook stream is so far behind. Young defends. Poirier drops down again, but Young doing a good job to establish underhooks. Crowd stating a “Go Canucks go” chant. Poirier drags the leg and has Young on the mat. Young back up, Poirier drags him back down, and Young pops right back up. Two minutes left. Poirier working hard for takedowns. Poirier plants Young back on the mat. Elbows to the skull for Young. Now to the body. Young back up to his feet. Poirier drags him down. McCarthy warns Young not to grab the fence. Young back up again. Another takedown for Poirier. Poirier trying to pass. Young throwing desperate strikes from the bottom.
