Amir Khan Vs. Zab Judah - Are Manny Pacquiao Or Floyd Mayweather Jr. In Winner’s Future?

Amir Khan and Zab Judah are set to face off in a 140 pound contest this Saturday night on HBO. While Timothy Bradley remains a fair enough option for the winner should they choose to stay in the weight class, the true big fish are up one weight class at 147 pounds. Will Khan or Judah move up to welterweight to take on Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, Jr. with a victory?

Golden Boy’s Richard Schaefer says that Khan vs. Mayweather is a possibility:

“Floyd has told me he is very interested in meeting Amir in the ring next year. ... The plan would be for Amir to have another fight in December, in the US again, possibly against Erik Morales. He could then perhaps have a big UK battle, possibly against another Brit, Kell Brook, before moving on to face Mayweather.”

Khan himself added to the idea of the fight happening by saying it has been agreed to:

“It’s very realistic. Golden Boy’s Richard Schaefer spoke with Mayweather and his manager, and they really want the fight against me. And he also spoke to me and Freddie and we both agreed to take the fight in 2012. I think it’s going to be a huge fight.”

Judah has spent time sparring with Pacquiao in the past and the idea of him meeting Manny is nothing new. Scott Christ of Bad Left Hook explains:

If Zab Judah wins this fight with Amir Khan, does he become a viable potential opponent for Manny Pacquiao? Judah is well-known, a win over Khan would be arguably the best of his career, and the fact is that Manny is running out of opponents unless Mayweather happens, or unless Victor Ortiz beats Mayweather.

I think the fight would at least get some consideration. Promoted by Main Events, Judah and his team have the ability to work with any promoter out there, and as the old saying goes, if it makes dollars, it makes sense.

Clearly, there is more riding on this fight than a simple win or loss. There could be a career defining, bank account swelling fight at the end of the rainbow.
