The UFC makes a big deal about its milestone shows, from the multiple titles on the line at UFC 100 to bringing Brock Lesnar back just in time for UFC 200. They were landmark events, but there is something even more special about UFC 205: the mixed martial arts company’s debut in the state of New York. And it’s celebrating with three titles on the line, including the headliner, Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez.
Mixed martial arts used to be outlawed in New York, and it took an awfully long time to make this happen. Now the UFC will host an event on the grandest stage of them all — Madison Square Garden. As usual, there will be prelims on the UFC Fight Pass service, then FOX Sports 1, and then they’ll have a pay-per-view featuring the main card, with various online streaming options available.
Alvarez will be putting his lightweight championship on the line against McGregor, who still holds the UFC’s featherweight title. Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will defend his title against Stephen Thompson, and finally, women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend her title against Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
In addition to the three titles on the line, the main card has three other huge fights. The main card will open with a bantamweight bout between Miesha Tate and Raquel Pennington. Fan-favorite Donald Cerrone will take on Kelvin Gastelum in the welterweight division. And finally, former middleweight champion Chris Weidman will take on Yoel Romero.
The preliminary card features names like Frankie Edgar, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Michael Johnson, and Jeremy Stephens. That’s just the FOX Sports 1 card, while big-name fighters like Jim Miller and Tim Boetsch will be featured on the preliminary card on UFC Fight Pass.
